Passage #384: 7 January 2017
Surf 'n' Turf
We are not especially territorial. Far from it. While it's true that we strive to ride new streets and trails each week and fill in our cumulative route map, we see this as an effort to appreciate the various places and connections that make up the fabric of the city, not as a matter "turf" in the possessive sense. However, by virtue of being a weekly bicycle ride and not, say, a weekly sailing club, we are undeniably creatures of the "turf" in the physiographic sense.
That is to say that up until now (occasional riparian and littoral excursions notwithstanding), we have been an exclusively terrestrial enterprise, rooted in the turf, not the surf*. But no more! This week, we will finally enter the marine realm, however briefly, making this the first amphibious Passage ride. Join us!
* nor, for that matter, in the surfer turf, which we have already missed our chance to see**.
** which does not mean that the route will be entirely free of other long-running territorial disputes...
